Before you start

  • The button shows up after you pick the media (or paste the Instagram links), with the number of ads in parentheses.
  • Each cell shows what will go out: the common field, or what will be inherited from the ads in that ad set.
  • Changes apply to this upload only and are not saved in presets.

Step by step

In this example, we change the text of a single ad, in one ad set.

  1. 1

    Pick campaigns and creatives

Pick the account, check the campaigns and select the creatives.

  2. 2

    Open Edit each ad

Click Edit each ad (N). Under Show, One by one lists each file in each ad set; Grouped by file applies the change to every ad set.

  3. 3

    Customize the cell

Check Customize in the column you want to change: the box comes with the value that would go out. Edit it. Empty text removes the inherited one. Shift + click on Customize checks the whole column.

  4. 4

    Apply and upload

Click Apply changes to this upload and then Create Ads.

Each ad name

The Ad name column shows the real name that will go out, with the AD01, AD02 numbering and the suffix. An empty name uses the automatic rule.

How to tell it worked

  • The message Individual changes applied to this upload shows up in the editor.
  • When you reopen the table, the customized cells are still checked with your text.

Frequently asked questions

How do I review each ad before uploading in Meta Ads Editor (name, text, headline, website)?

Use the Edit each ad (N) button, which appears right after you choose your creatives (or paste the Instagram links).

It opens a table with one row for each ad that will be created (each file in each ad set), showing:

  • the actual name the ad will get (same rule as the queue: AD##, complement, file name);
  • what will go out in main text, headline, website, UTMs and button: the shared field or, if it's empty, what will be inherited from the ads in that ad set ("Will inherit: ...").

To change something for just one ad, select Customize in the cell: the box is pre-filled with the value that would be used, so just edit it. Empty text removes the inherited value. Shift + click on Customize selects the whole column. Under Show, you can switch to Grouped by file, which is handy when a change applies to all ad sets at once (for example, only the Ad Complement).

Open the question

Can I customize an ad's copy for just one ad set while using the same file across multiple ad sets?

Yes. In Edit each ad, the default mode is One by one: each ad in each ad set: each row is a file × ad set pair (the ad set name appears under the file). Select Customize on that row and the change applies only there.

If you want the change to apply to all ad sets, switch Show to Grouped by file. Per-ad-set changes are not lost when you apply changes in grouped mode.
