Before you start

  • Links to posts, Reels, IGTV and Stories from instagram.com work.
  • For Existing post, the post must belong to the Instagram account linked to the ad account Page.
  • One batch of links runs at a time: if one is already running, wait for it to finish.

Step by step

In this example, we turn two Reels from the profile into ads.

  1. 1

    Open the Instagram tab

In the Meta Ads Editor, click Ad with Instagram Link and pick account, campaigns and ad sets.

  2. 2

    Paste the links

Under Instagram links, paste one link per line.

  3. 3

    Choose the type and text

Under Ad type, Create new ad recreates the media in a new ad; Existing post uses the real post, with likes and comments. Under Primary Text Mode, choose Custom, Current post caption or Text from previous ad.

  4. 4

    Create the ads

Choose the status and click Create Ads. The editor fetches each post and creates an ad in each ad set, in a queue.

Carousel post

If the post has several media files, the new ad also goes out as a carousel, in the same order.

How to tell it worked

  • The upload panel shows each link being processed and the ad created in each ad set.
  • With Existing post, the ad in Meta shows the post likes and comments.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an ad from an Instagram link?

On the Bulk Publish Ads page, click the Instagram Link Ad tab. Select the accounts, campaigns, and ad sets as usual, then paste the links into the Instagram Links field (one per line). Links to instagram.com posts, Reels, IGTV, and Stories are accepted. Choose the Ad Type (Create New Ad or Existing Post), the Main Text Mode, and the Ad Status, then click Create Ads. The system fetches the media from each post and creates an ad in each selected ad set, processing everything in a queue. Only one batch of links can run at a time: if you see a message saying a job is already in progress, wait for the current one to finish.

What are the Main Text Mode options in the Instagram link tab?

The Main Text Mode sets where the text (copy) of ads created from an Instagram link comes from. Custom: you type the text manually in the Main Text field. Current post text: uses the Instagram post caption as the ad text. Previous ad text: copies the text of the latest ad already in the selected ad set, which is useful for keeping the ad set's copy consistent. In the automatic modes, the text field is hidden because the system fills in the content for you.

What is the difference between Create new ad and Existing post in Instagram link mode?

Create new ad downloads the post's media and recreates it as a new ad (dark post): the ad starts from scratch, without the likes and comments of the original post. If the post is a carousel with several media items, the ad is also created as a carousel in the same order. Existing post uses the actual Instagram post as the ad, keeping its accumulated likes and comments. To use Existing post, the post must belong to the Instagram profile linked to the Page connected to the ad account. Note: Reels with licensed music can't be boosted in Existing post mode because of Meta's copyright restrictions.
